DESCRIPTION
Triglav rises in the heart of the Julian Alps and has always been a special mountain for Slovenians. Climbing Triglav is not only about reaching the top, but also about becoming part of a tradition. For many locals, it’s almost a rite of passage, a way of showing a deep bond with the land.
The climb itself is a mix of steady hiking, rocky ridges, and a final exposed section to the summit. With the right preparation from you, and the knowledge of our OVX guides, this challenge becomes achievable and deeply rewarding.
The history of Triglav goes back centuries. In 1778, a group of four brave men made the first ascent from Bohinj. The sharp ridge was so difficult that they had to “ride it like a horse” to continue. Over the years, new routes and safety improvements opened the climb to more people. In 1895, Jakob Aljaž built the famous Aljaž Tower on the summit, turning Triglav into a national symbol. You can read more about the mountain’s story on Wikipedia – Triglav.
When you reach the top, the reward is stunning. On clear days you can see all the way to the Adriatic Sea and across the peaks of the Alps. It’s a true bucket-list adventure and one of the highlights of hut-to-hut hiking in Slovenia.
If you want to take it a step further, you can also try our Climb Winter Triglav tour, where the same peak transforms into a full alpine challenge covered in snow and ice.
Who It’s For
