WHAT TO EXPECT
itinerary
01
Kopišcar or Hanza route
Pick-up from your designated location (optional). Drive to the starting point slightly below Vršič pass (Kopiščar) or Koča na Gozdu (Hanza) follows by the approach to the wall.
After the approach to the bottom of the wall where we can admire the stone face of a Pagan girl, a steep climb through a system of chimneys will lead us through a scenic Prisank window, followed by the western Prisank ridge we will reach the summit of Prisank (2547 m). For the Hanza route, we will start approaching a bit lower at 1250 m, passing Lambada waterfalls and climbing the entire north face of Prisank, admiring Devile Tower, and passing many snow fields (ice axe and crampons). Descent to the starting point is done on the southern slopes of Prisank via a hiking trail. The tours will take us 4 hours.
02
Hanza route
Perched above the renowned Vršič pass, Mala Mojstrovka stands as a graceful and easily reachable summit within the central Julian Alps. It boasts the coveted Hanza route, one of Slovenia’s most captivating via ferrata trails, promising both beauty and accessibility for climbers.
Ascending the route, you’ll encounter steep terrain, but fear not— it’s outfitted with sturdy steel wires and safety devices for your ascent. Be cautious of highly exposed sections and the potential for rockfall along the way. As elevation increases, expect to encounter patches of snow, even in spring. Upon reaching the summit, prepare to be mesmerized by panoramic vistas that will take your breath away. The descent, though, presents its challenge, as you navigate a rugged gravel path back down. Duration: 4h (approach hike: 1h, ascent: 2h, descent: 1h)
03
Slovenian/Italian route
Nestled in the western Slovenian Julian Alps near the Italian border, Mount Mangart stands as Slovenia’s third-highest peak. With its striking north wall reminiscent of Mt Triglav, Mangart attracts climbers seeking adventure. Accessible via the scenic Mangart road, the highest mountain road in Slovenia, climbers typically begin their ascent from the Mangart Saddle, marking the end of the road and the start of their journey.
From the Mangart Saddle, a 30 m approach leads to two via Ferrata routes: the Slovenian route to the right and the Italian Route to the left. Both routes intertwine, making it advantageous to combine them. The Slovenian route traverses the challenging west wall of Mangart, featuring exposed sections and loose rock, necessitating full attention – B graded..Conversely, C graded Italian route offers a simpler, well-secured path, making it ideal for less experienced climbers.
