Summer is in full swing, and July has been one of the most diverse and inspiring months of the season at OutventureX. Guests from Singapore, the Netherlands, Hungary, England and Slovenia joined us to discover the many faces of Slovenian adventure—from their first via ferrata experience and sport climbing lessons to multi-pitch climbing and one of the country’s most legendary alpine routes in the North Face of Mount Triglav.
Every trip was different, yet they all shared the same spirit: authentic experiences, professional guidance, and a genuine desire to explore Slovenia’s mountains in a safe and memorable way.
First Steps into the Vertical World – Furlanova Via Ferrata
We began July with a via ferrata course on the famous Furlanova Via Ferrata above the Vipava Valley. Two guests from Singapore experienced technical mountain terrain for the first time. After successfully completing the route, they challenged themselves on several of the spectacular overhanging sections of the nearby Otmarjeva Via Ferrata.
Beyond the climbing itself, they were captivated by the beauty of the Vipava Valley—its dramatic limestone landscape, breathtaking views and the unique feeling of freedom that comes with moving through vertical terrain.
A Pit Stop That Became an Adventure
Next, we welcomed two Dutch travellers for a one-day sport climbing course in Vipavska Bela. Only a few days earlier, they had independently climbed Mount Triglav and were driving towards the Croatian coast when they decided to make a stop in the Vipava Valley.
What was meant to be a short break quickly turned into a memorable outdoor experience. Surrounded by beautiful limestone cliffs, they learned the fundamentals of sport climbing, belaying and movement on natural rock, leaving Slovenia with new skills and yet another reason to return.
First Alpine Experience – Mangart via the Slovenian Route
Our next adventure took us to Mount Mangart, where we guided three hikers from Hungary via the Slovenian Route (via ferrata) to the summit. For all three, it was their first experience in true alpine terrain.
Choosing to climb with a certified mountain guide proved to be the right decision. Besides enjoying a safe ascent, they learned about the history and landscape of the Julian Alps while standing on one of Slovenia’s most spectacular viewpoints. Their enthusiasm confirmed once again that a first alpine experience is best enjoyed when you can focus entirely on the journey.
The Legendary Slovenian Route in the North Face of Triglav
One of the highlights of July was undoubtedly a guided ascent of the legendary Slovenian Route in the North Face of Mount Triglav. Slovenian climbers Anja and Klara joined mountain guide Boštjan for an unforgettable day on one of the country’s most iconic alpine climbs.
The Slovenian Route is far more than a historic line—it is a true alpine classic, combining over a century of mountaineering tradition with magnificent climbing in the heart of the Julian Alps.
Anja and Klara thoroughly enjoyed the experience and described it as one of the highlights of their climbing season. They especially appreciated the confidence and peace of mind that came from sharing such a demanding adventure with an experienced mountain guide.
From the Training Ground to a Real Multi-Pitch Climb
The second week of July was dedicated to Mickey and Lucie from southern England, who spent part of their Slovenian holiday attending a two-day multi-pitch climbing course.
The first day took place at the climbing area near the Hubelj spring, where they learned the essential skills of multi-pitch climbing: building anchors, rope management, communication between climbing partners and safe movement on longer routes.
After the course, they cooled off in the crystal-clear pools below the Hubelj spring. They loved the place so much that they returned the following day for another refreshing swim.
The second day was time to put their new knowledge into practice. In the Steber sector of Vipavska Tura they climbed an approximately 100-metre-long route graded 4c. It provided the perfect opportunity to reinforce the techniques learned the day before while experiencing the exposure and atmosphere of a real rock face, with more than one hundred metres of open space beneath their feet.
To finish the course, they completed several full-length abseils, practising one of climbing’s most valuable—and exciting—skills in a real mountain environment. Afterwards, Mickey and Lucie continued their Slovenian holiday in Bohinj.
Looking Towards the Stars
July was not only about mountains and climbing.
We also organised two unforgettable stargazing evenings. The first took place in the medieval village of Vipavski Križ, while the second was held on the Gora Plateau at the observatory of the Nanos Astronomical Society.
Guided by experienced members of the society, participants explored the summer night sky, discovered planets and constellations, and even observed the Sun safely through professional solar telescopes. It was a remarkable evening where nature, science and curiosity came together beneath a perfectly clear summer sky.
Every Month Brings a New Story
July once again demonstrated how incredibly diverse Slovenia can be despite its size. Within just a few days, you can stand on the summit of Mangart, climb the legendary North Face of Triglav, learn to climb on the limestone cliffs of the Vipava Valley, or gaze at the Milky Way from the edge of the Trnovski Plateau.
These are exactly the kinds of experiences we strive to create at OutventureX.
