DESCRIPTION

The Winter Mountaineering Course Slovenia gives you a practical foundation for moving in the mountains when snow and ice take over. We teach with clear demos, plenty of movement, and modern safety standards, so you leave with skills you can apply immediately.

What you’ll learn

  • Fit and use crampons; practice precise footwork on firm snow and ice
  • Use the ice axe for walking support, self-belay, and self-arrest
  • Climb and descend steeper slopes; add simple rope support and safe spacing
  • Cover avalanche basics: read terrain, manage the group, and run an emergency response
  • Navigate in winter; manage pacing, layering, and cold-weather systems

Who it’s for

This winter mountaineering course is ideal for motivated hikers, via ferrata enthusiasts, and summer climbers who want to transition into winter terrain safely. You don’t need prior winter experience; a basic fitness level and comfort in the mountains help.

Locations & season

We train in the Julian Alps, often in areas such as Pokljuka, Vršič, or the Triglav region. We choose venues with reliable snow and safe angles. Because conditions change quickly, we confirm the exact plan close to the date to ensure effective learning and minimise risk.

Equipment

Bring warm mountain layers, waterproofs, sturdy boots that take crampons, gloves, a hat, goggles or sunglasses, and a small pack. We can supply technical gear on request (crampons, ice axe, harness, helmet). Please arrange rentals in advance.

Why train with OutventureX

  • Certified, experienced guides
  • Small groups and clear progressions
  • Hands-on practice and real decisions, not classroom theory
  • Venues selected to maximise learning time and safety

Next steps

Put your skills to work on Climb Winter Triglav, try steep ice on our Ice Climbing Tours, or move into longer rock routes with the Multi Pitch Climbing Course. For summer destinations, see Alpine Climbing Slovenia.
