What do you really want from the mountains in 2026?

Not what social media wants. Not what others expect.

What you, as a mountaineer, honestly want to do and feel out there.

Start With Looking Back

Before you look forward, look back at your last season.

Ask yourself:

  • Which tours made you feel alive?
  • Where did you feel strong and in flow?
  • Where did you feel over your head or stressed?

Be honest. Your past year already tells you a lot about what kind of mountaineer you are right now.

Choose One Main Goal (Not Ten)

Many mountaineers write a long list: this peak, that ridge, this course, that trip.

In reality, you move better if you choose one main focus for 2026.

For example:

  • your first 4000 m peak
  • your first winter ascent
  • your first proper ski touring season
  • your first technical course (multi-pitch, winter mountaineering, etc.)

You can still do many other things, but one clear goal gives you direction.

Make a Realistic Starting Point

Now connect your dream with your reality.

Ask yourself:

  • How many full days in the mountains did you have last year?
  • How is your fitness right now, honestly?
  • How do you feel on exposed ground? Calm or tense?
  • Which technical skills do you actually have, not just in theory?

It is better to plan fewer, stronger days than to dream of something you cannot support with time and energy.

Take five minutes and actually write it down:
